What is Magnet School?

Longview Independent School District is committed to providing innovative and quality education to all children. LISD and the U.S. Department of Education developed a partnership to restructure five schools using grant funding. The schools are structured to enable students from early childhood through grade eight to receive a rigorous education to better prepare students for advanced courses in high school and beyond. Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students will receive Montessori instruction. Students in grades one through eight will participate in International Baccalaureate* programs. At all grade levels, students are lead by highly trained teachers who promote excellence using hands-on, participatory learning to foster the love of learning.

All students who attend the schools will participate in the magnet school offerings. Class spaces are filled by students in the attendance zone. Additional spaces will be available. Students from other schools may apply to attend a magnet school and are chosen by random lottery.

*IB status is pending authorization and evaluation of schools.
